Despite a unintentional extra warmup sprinting into the Warwick sports centre to avoid the rain, the Jays were feeling energised after a motivational talk by our captain, Amelia Burdett, ahead of the first quarter against Warwick 1s. We started the first quarter well, matching the other team goal for goal. The whole teamed maintained lots of pressure in defence, leading to some amazing attacking intercepts by GA Susannah Hickie. We ended the quarter feeling optimistic, with the score 10-9 to Warwick.
The same team played the second quarter, maintaining our momentum and ending the second quarter just down at 20-17, with a big thanks to MVP Ruthie Adeleke for her work in making sure the shooters rarely got the ball under the post. The third quarter saw a good work rate from everyone on court, with lots of satisfying overheads landing under the post in the hands of our GS, Kate Godsmark.
Unfortunately, Warwick started to extend their lead, ending this quarter 34-23. The final quarter saw more success for the defence in the circle, and the match ended 44-28.
