Cambridge University Ladies’ Netball Club took on their Oxford counterparts over a cold weekend in February, with five talented teams fighting their matches down to the last whistle. CULNC, as the away team, took their place on the Oxford balcony to cheer on their clubmates over an extremely busy weekend. The Blues’ 35-52 result was an intensive game with exceptional talent which saw the Light Blues fighting hard, demonstrating their mental and physical strength. Player of the match was team captain Nat McEvoy. The Jays (2nd team) battled the Oxford Bolts, finally coming out with a toughly fought result of 32-51, giving 100% effort. Hannah Atkins, powerhouse Wing Defence, secured POTM at her first Varsity. The Swallows (3rd team) and Wrens (4th team) dominated their games. The Swallows smashed Oxford with a 52-34 win, and star fresher shooter Cheskie Macbeth took player of the match. The Wrens continued their practically unbeaten season by demolishing the Dark Blues in their classic style, easily obtaining a 38-27 win. Immense defender Valentina Simpon took POTM. The Robins (5th team) gave their all in a tough match against an intense Oxford team, leading to a 20-60 loss. Player of the match went to Kayla Roberts who put in a great shift throughout midcourt. As well as the star POTMs, dedicated team captains, and committee members, CULNC have given unbeaten effort across the season and Varsity. Although Varsity saw mixed outcomes on the scoreboard, the players put all of their energy onto the court and was a culmination of a hard-fought and extremely enjoyable season across CULNC.
