Cambridge University Ladies Netball Club is an inclusive, high performance club which is driven by its community and shared love for sport, fun and commitment to each other. Encouragement and support is at the core of the club, dedicated to player’s personal development as well as team growth. A club that prides itself on the fact that each player steps on court with energy and confidence regardless if it’s conditioning, training or a high-stakes BUCS match. A place where you form strong friendships and lasting bonds with students and coaches, a sanctuary from academic life and a group of players, friends and teammates!
BUCS teams (teams 1-4) at CULNC train 3 times a week, with two court sessions and a strength and conditioning session in the kitted-out University Sports centre’s TTR room with specialist programmes and training for building power and preventing injury. On top of this is weekly BUCS matches, with our first four teams spread across the Midlands BUCS leagues playing every Wednesday. This looks slightly different for our newly established 5th team who will train twice a week and play regular matches against local sides. Varsity, however, is often viewed by players as the highlight of the season. In February, all 5 sides compete against Oxford across a two-day period. It is a weekend of high adrenaline, energy and performance.
Trials for CULNC are held in early October, the beginning of Michaelmas term, and that is the Club’s only window during the year for new members to join. The club is open to all undergraduates and postgraduates studying at the University. As well as this, there is an annual two-week long pre-season running from mid-to-late September open to all incoming and returning undergraduates and postgraduates. This is followed in January with a Lent pre-season, for Club members only.
CULNC is one of the largest and most successful women’s sports clubs at Cambridge University. It is a highly competitive club, with 4 university teams as well as running the College Netball League and Cuppers.
