The Jays are in a very tough league again this year. We started the season against one of the strongest sides in the league, Birmingham 3s, and started to build combinations with a whole new defensive end compared to last season. The Jays managed to keep their heads up throughout the start of the season despite not managing to pick up a win – this really showed our team spirit and commitment.
As the season progressed, we started to push teams like Nottingham and Warwick particularly in the first half of each game. The defensive combinations started to gel really well turning plenty of ball against the strongest of teams in our league. In attack, we played with patience and tried to maintain possession which really built pressure against the opposition.
All of our hard work culminated in our final match of term and first win of the season against top of the league Leicester 1s. This game left us leading at the end of the first and second quarters, then Leicester pushed back finishing the third all square. Going down by a few goals in the last quarter, the Jays maintained their cool and pushed back to win the match 43-42! Every single player who stepped on court played their part leading to the best performance that the Jays have put out all season.
This sets us up with some good momentum and confidence going into the latter part of the league season.
