Welcome to Cambridge University Ladies' Netball Club! My name is Chloe and I’m Club Captain for the 2017/18 season.

This year we will be selecting the 1st, 2nd and 3rd team at the beginning of the 2017 season, and we are on the lookout for new netballing talent to join our existing club members. We have players whose experience range from playing school Netball to playing Superleague, so we encourage players of all standards to come along to pre-season and trials.

Preseason will begin on Monday 25th September until Sunday 1st October and will be hosted at Cambridge University Sports Centre. The week will include three netball training sessions and fitness to help everyone get back into the swing of things! A completed timetable including timings will be uploaded onto the website in due cause.

Trials will be held the following week on Thursday 5th October (time tbc), make sure you register by emailing captain@culnc.org with your Name, College, Netball experience and 1st and 2nd choice positions.

For those interested in our summer fitness plan please see the news article below on the website where you will be linked to a dropbox. There is a fitness plan attached spanning 6 weeks that should prepare you nicely for preseason and hopefully the season ahead!

We love to hear from anyone that is interested in joining CULNC so feel free to send me an email, and I look forward to meeting you soon!

Jays vs. Loughborough 3rds 21/10/2105

TEAM 21/10/2015:

GK: Kate Garden

GD: Becca Hitchings

WD: Kate Garnett

C: Catrin Bush ©

WA: Becky Haggie

GA: Emily Elliott

GS: Fran Jenkins

Subs: Zoe Evans, Megan Lockey, Elly Harrison

The Jays set off from the drizzle of Cambridge for their second BUCS Wednesday to play Loughborough 3rds on their extraordinary home turf aka ‘the netball centre’. While some of us woke up with butterflies for the upcoming match, GD Becca Hitchings woke up excited to snoop around their facilities. Fortunately we weren’t so intimidated when we arrived when we saw the (almost) Cambridge blue sports hall walls. Error Loughborough. This was followed by a good warm up and a fairly dominant first half, with the scores neck and neck. Brilliant play from the defensive circle (Becca and players player, Kate Garden) picked off ball after ball of the Loughborough attack. Pressure put on the Jays getting it out of defence leading to frustration but the girls worked hard using front cuts and making sure there is always more than one option. Half time hit us and the pressure was still on, we hadn’t pulled away but stayed positive. We had no changes which was a challenge to our fitness, and was possibly the reason for dropping 5 points behind by the end of the third quarter. Calm words from captain Trin urged us to keep our cool – and a complete sub on of Zoe Evans (WA), Megan Lockey (WD) and Elly Harrison (GS) gave an injection of new energy in the final quarter. Sadly we still couldn’t turn the tide of Loughborough finishing the game 44-34 to them. Despite this all agreed that it was a good match with some nice passages of play – and makes us all excited to come back and smash ‘em next time round!

Blues remain undefeated, this time with a win against Nottingham 3rds

Blues 67 - 22 Nottingham 3rds
Warwick 2nds 29 - 56 Jays

The Blues started the game exceptionally with a lot fewer unforced errors and high levels of concentration,  that were lacking the previous week. Sophie Hussey had an excellent first half in attack,  working very well with her shooting duo Izzy Bell.  Nicky Taylor brought the ball beautifully down court, and the countless interceptions from Laura Spence, Charlotte Plumtree and Hayley Smith ensured domination from the start. Frances Lee-Barber and Emma Langley - Jones came on to bring a whole new style to attack which only advanced the Blues lead. Jodie Green also came on to cause even more damage in defence.  A very successful win of 67-22 showed how well the Blues play on home turf. Next match at home is Birmingham, who are always a tough opposition. The Jays also won away, smashing Warwick 2nds 56-29 to remain top of the league.
