Welcome to Cambridge University Ladies' Netball Club! My name is Chloe and I’m Club Captain for the 2017/18 season. 

This year we will be selecting the 1st, 2nd and 3rd team at the beginning of the 2017 season, and we are on the lookout for new netballing talent to join our existing club members. We have players whose experience range from playing school Netball to playing Superleague, so we encourage players of all standards to come along to pre-season and trials.

Preseason will begin on Monday 25th September until Sunday 1st October and will be hosted at Cambridge University Sports Centre. The week will include three netball training sessions and fitness to help everyone get back into the swing of things! A completed timetable including timings will be uploaded onto the website in due cause. 

Trials will be held the following week on Thursday 5th October (time tbc), make sure you register by emailing captain@culnc.org with your Name, College, Netball experience and 1st and 2nd choice positions. 

For those interested in our summer fitness plan please see the news article below on the website where you will be linked to a dropbox. There is a fitness plan attached spanning 6 weeks that should prepare you nicely for preseason and hopefully the season ahead!

Summer Fitness

Due to the nature of the Cambridge term BUCS matches begin as soon as term starts. There is little time to prepare for our first match and therefore we rely on team members being as prepared as possible for the demands of the game...

The plan continues strength and conditioning exercises with pre and post-hab. You will find that the plan is set over 6 weeks. Ideally you should aim to start, week beginning 14th August, in order to be ready for preseason on 25th September. The plan will require access to gym for the strength exercises.  If you have any trouble with the exercises or do not know them Youtube will provide short videos demonstrating what they are. 

There will be a fitness test after trials for those who are successful and the results from which will factor into team selection for the following match.

Blues vs UCL 25/11/2015 WIN

The blues were up against UCL 1st in the cup this week. They new it would be tough as they were down to the bare 7 with many injuries among the squad. Within the first 3 minutes centre Emily Coulter injured her ankle meaning they were down to 6! This saw a change of Hayley Smith to centre. The team were not baffled by this and despite being 7 goals down in places they bought it back to drawing at half time. Nicky Taylor arrived at half time. With a full squad and extremely accurate shooting from Izzy Bell and Frances Lee Barber the blues managed to win by 7 in the end, a great victory. Player of the match went to Hayley Smith for her great adaptability.

Jays vs Oxford Roos 25/11/2015 WIN

With the Cambridge Jays and Oxford Roos now playing in different BUCS leagues, this Cup match was the only opportunity for the sides to meet each other before much anticipated Varsity 2016 - therefore a crucial fixture. Playing away in Oxford, the Jays were keen to use the momentum from their recent run of league wins to proceed to the third round of the Cup. The game started well with strong shooting and a quick turnover, however Oxford played with determination and refused to let us get away with any unforced errors on the court, fighting hard for 50/50 balls and loose tips. Implementing the faster decisions and stronger drives practised in training, especially from centre and captain Catrin Bush, the Jays led by 2 after both the first and second quarters. Eager to dig deep and increase this lead, Kate Garnett subbed onto WD at half time as the Jays found their stride and embarked on a phenomenal third quarter, described by vice Becca Hitchings as "the stuff of dreams." GK Kate Garden marked the hold with great success and the team, as practiced in training, successfully converted defensive interceptions into points on the board. Feeds into the circle space by Zoe and Trin were flawless as was GS Emily Elliott and GA Maddy Eno's shooting stats.The Jays went into the final quarter leading by 10 yet eager to push themselves to the end, with an improved team determination and feist keeping the Roos at bay. The final whistle blew 54-42 to the Light Blues and both players' player and man of the match was awarded to star Maddy Eno. GDBO

Blues vs Nottingham 18/11/2015 WIN

The blues were up against Nottingham this week who they'd lost to earlier in the year. They started strong with stylish, confident play that left them two up after the first quarter. The second quarter saw some great movement throughout the court which gave them an 8 goal lead at points. They finished the second quarter 5 goals up. They continued to play well and support each other and maintained their lead during the third quarter. Due to some fantastic defence from player of the match, Emily Coulter, they won by 7 - a fantastic result
