Blues vs Oxford 1sts 28/10/2015

A home game against Oxford was always going to be a big fixture for the Blues. With both teams yet to win a match in our new higher league there was even more pressure to win. Having lost our first two matches whilst yet still winning the final quarters we knew we needed to go out strong from the start. Which is exactly what we did! Oxford’s solid circle defence did not phase GS, Izzy Bell, as she simply sank long shots one after another. Our new circle defence combinations were proving to be tough opposition for Oxford as Lucy, Tara and Charlotte’s turnovers helped secure our 10 goal lead going in to the fourth quarter. Our, as ever impressive, C Emily out ran her opposition creating crucial interceptions throughout the game. Hayley, Emma and Nicky, our mid court players, also had great games with their strong drives effectively bring the ball down the court to goal. Man of the match went to our Captain Frances Lee-Barber. The final score was 33-29 with an epic last second goal by Izzy being disallowed. The team walked away with huge grins all round; it was a great first win of the season and the Blues were back working hard at training Thursday evening motivated that this is the start of many more great victories this year.
